Los Angeles
Before The Needle
Plain answers to the questions people in Los Angeles ask before an injectable, thread or skin treatment, from an independent desk that treats no one.
Most questions about injectables get asked in the wrong place. They come out on the treatment table, a few minutes before the syringe is opened, with the consent form already signed. Before The Needle exists to move those questions earlier.
It is an independent Los Angeles publication that takes one question at a time, answers it in plain words, and says what the answer depends on. It does not treat anyone, book anyone or sell anything.
The questions are the ones people type late at night after a consultation that went too fast. How long does swelling last after cheek filler. Why does a provider sometimes say no.
What does a treatment plan look like on paper. Is numbing cream extra. Each one gets its own page, its own short answer, and its own list of what to ask next.
The questions fall into five groups: Treatment planning, Pore appearance and skin texture, Value comparisons, Cheek contour and facial balance, and Ultrasound lifting and tightening.
Every answer is read before it is written: published clinical guidance, consent-form language, the Medical Board of California's statements on who may inject, and the patient material professional societies publish.
Three habits hold across every page. The answer comes first, before any background. The hedging is honest: usually means usually, and it depends is followed by what it depends on.
No claim goes in that cannot be checked against a public source, and no page is written in a clinic's voice, because this publication is not a clinic.
Two things are missing on purpose. No prices, because a number is a fact about one clinic on one day; and no ranking of injectors, because the desk has not sat in every chair.
Nothing here replaces the examination that comes before a first treatment in California. The pages exist so that the examination is a conversation rather than a briefing.
Readers send new questions; the desk answers the ones that arrive most often and says when the honest answer is that it depends on the face.
The state rules on who may inject are the same from the Westside to the Valley. The practical questions still shift with the drive home, the parking and the afternoon sun.
About
About the answer desk
Every answer here is written in Los Angeles by a desk that treats no one. Nobody on it holds a medical license, and no page pretends otherwise; a licensed clinician who has examined your face makes the decisions.
It reads before it writes, in the collections a card from the county library opens and the catalog at USC's libraries. It grades clinics the way a California Restaurant Association member is graded: in the window.

Read the short answer, then what it depends on, and note the follow-ups that fit your face. Take the list to a licensed injector and expect the exam to change some answers. How the desk writes is set out in the publishing policy.
